HUG – The Commandments
HUG is committed to creating safer spaces.
To cherish our ten-year legacy, we declare the core of our values: The Commandments.
The Commandments are not carvings in stone, but our sacred vow: an invitation to build together a culture where every soul is precious and deserves respect.
By committing to mutual respect, we build a blissful experience for the whole spectrum of being.
I. Don't assume, get consent
Everyone's own body, personal space, and peace on the dance floor is sacred. Only enthusiastic consent is a yes; hesitation is always a no.
II. Don't touch other people's things
Leave them alone. Bring only clearly lost items to the kiosk.
III. Do not judge
Approach everyone as an individual, without unneeded assumptions about, for example, their background, gender, or ability. Our Sanctuary is a safe haven for the spectrum of being.
IV. Value your neighbor
Trash-talk has no place in the Sanctuary. Treat others with respect, or be silent.
V. Be a guardian angel
If you notice someone in distress or feeling apprehensive, spread your wings. Even the smallest gesture can be a salvation.
VI. Report wrongdoing
If you see or experience harassment, report it immediately to the Community Care Team or other staff.
VII. Know your limits
Intoxication does not justify violating boundaries.
VIII. Make amends
If you mess up, take responsibility: learn from your mistakes and act better.
Practice, Support & Safety
We aim to create a safer environment where everyone can be themselves and enjoy music, dance and unity.
Consequences: We respond with a low threshold. Depending on the severity of the offense, the consequence may be a formal talk, removal from the Sanctuary, or, if necessary, further action.
Support: Our Community Care Team is here to ensure the principles of the Sanctuary are upheld and to guarantee your safety. Don't be shy about approaching them – especially when hesitating.
Want to get involved?
We are committed to long-term work for well-being within the scene. If you hear the call, get in touch. Together, we will build the Oulu underground to be safer, more accepting, and more caring for us all.
