Iltateet - The Tea of the Evenings
Bringing his love for the UK sound to Oulu, Iltateet gets the crowd excited to dance to his bass-driven groove. His unhurried mission is driven by one core principle: playing the diverse music he personally enjoys.
From a young age, Iltateet’s mind was shaped by CDs such as System of a Down’s explosive debut album and the hypnotizing beats of Gorillaz. He explored the depths of music, listening to and analyzing tunes from internet radio stations. Over a decade passed and after buying a DJ controller, he received an invitation to an open deck session from another DJ. That's when spinning records truly as himself began.
Currently, inspiration flows from various radio shows dedicated to rap and electronic music. His artist name, Iltateet, echoes this blend of the everyday and the deeper meaning – rooted in the simple act of drinking evening tea, yet resonating with a multi-layered aesthetic quality.
"Drum & bass, or junkka in Finnish, is why I started DJing", he states. “My comfort zone is within breakbeats and basslines.”
Subgenres like liquid funk, microfunk, neurofunk, jump up and atmospheric D&B suit his playing style. When he's not playing drum and bass, he spins lounge and chillout music. With a relaxed approach, he seamlessly mixes tracks ranging from electronic music to 80s hits. Genres like ska and classic Finnish pop are also found in his sets.
As one of the founders of Möykkä ry, Iltateet is a versatile performer who sees the Oulu underground scene as open and accepting. Reflecting his eclectic sound, his gigs range from relaxed daytime cafes and cultural lounges to deep within the vibe of intimate underground events. His adaptability mirrors a sound that transitions from casual evening moods to a more energetic, thrumming pulse.
Brewing in his future are the desire to learn to produce pleasant sounds, the enthusiasm to play at bigger parties, and the hope of making Möykkä ry an important part of Oulu music culture.
