Icarus – Channeling Something Greater

A devoted figure in the Oulu underground rave community, Icarus serves his audiences melodic yet intense psytrance. Embodying the music he plays, he acts as a modern shaman – channeling energy and serving as a link in the collective experience, while remaining one of us on the dance floor.

Captivated by the profound sense of togetherness, he saw music as a vehicle for shared experiences beyond words. After initially capturing this energy through photography, he began his transition to the decks in 2019. Early psytrance influences laid the foundation for his sound. Even his name tells a story: nicknamed Icarus by friends abroad, he shares the mythical figure’s tendency to fly as high as possible.

In his sets, Icarus takes the listener on a journey through mind and emotion, ultimately bringing them back to earth charged with positive life energy. Favouring progressive structures, he blends energetic, deep, and melodic elements.

Oulu is his spiritual home – warm and ideally sized. Here, Icarus is deeply involved with concept-driven collectives like Quantum Leap and Päiväravit. He takes pride in the local underground community: it represents humane values, accessibility, and unity without dogma. In a world where people crave connection, the rave scene offers essential togetherness based on mutual respect that creates safer experiences and enduring bonds.

Looking forward, he dreams of playing abroad and at forest raves, while maintaining his relaxed and authentic approach to DJing. As a co-founder of Oulu Underground ry, he hopes its Alternative Capital of Culture (AKPK) campaign will leave a transformative mark on the city’s cultural landscape.
